Day of Safe Energy for Climate Protection in St. Petersburg

On April 27, the day of safe energy for climate protection was held at Ecocentrum in St. Petersburg. This day was timed to coincide with the 32nd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster that happened on April 26, 1986, and was intended to show safe energy and climate solutions, alternatives to nuclear energy and fossil fuels.

Recently, nuclear energy has been presented as a "clean" and "climate- friendly" solution, not taking into account the problems of radioactive waste, to the disposal and burial of which there are no safe solutions yet.

Among the visitors at Ecocentrum there were teachers, activists of local environmental groups, and students. The program included a video show about climate and clean energy, examples of renewable energy sources in Russia, Europe, and Japan, where renewable energy sources were given special attention after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in 2011.

Visitors to the Ecocentrum were presented the exhibition "Energy Efficient Building", with materials confirming that energy efficiency is the largest, cheapest and cleanest source of energy, and they discussed the choice of energy solutions for their home - using the example of an energy-saving suitcase, a portable demonstration kit. The Round Table "Climate plans - from my home, school and office to the climate strategy and plan of the region" was held.

RES and energy efficiency can become an alternative not only to fossil fuels, but also nuclear energy - and this is shown not only by forecasts, but also by the experience of many countries.
