The head of the UN Climate Change Secretariat said that Japan and Russia should publish 2020 goals for greenhouse gas emissions

Russian Environmental NGOs have made many statements that Russia can and should publish 2020 goals for greenhouse gas emissions. The Russian delegation at Bonn negotiations has not made any statements concerning Russian 2020 commitments.
The head of the UN Climate Change Secretariat Yvo de BoerUN Climate Change Secretariat Yvo de Boer said on June 8 that Japan and Russia should publish 2020 goals for greenhouse gas emissions. Russia is the world's number three greenhouse gas emitter, Japan is number five. The lack of Japanese and Russian emissions targets was holding up ongoing climate negotiations among 181 nations in Bonn.

The Russian Socio-Ecological Union has addressed the Russian Government and the Russian delegation at the climate negotiations with the Statement that Russia can and should take strong commitments on reduction of GHG emissions. The RSEU also joined the Statement by the All-Russia Conference of Environmental NGOs “Green Movement in Russia and Environmental Challenges.” Russia’s position can considerably influence the result of the international climate talks. Russian environmental NGOs are sure that Russia can take commitments of 25 % reduction of GHG emissions by 2020.
