November 1-3, in the suburbs of St. Petersburg Russian Social ecological Union/Friends of the Earth Russia held the conference "Climate and energy. Solutions for the future". Event was attended by 62 representatives of 30 environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from 7 Federal districts of the Russian Federation. International seminar on NGO cooperation within the Civil society Forum EU-Russia "Energy sustainability and climate adaptation of regulated aquatic ecosystems management" and international seminar "Strengthening NGOs in promoting energy efficiency to local communities development and climate protection" happened within the days of conference.

Environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs) consider it necessary to adopt a strong global climate agreement in December 2015, as set out in the documents of the UN Convention on Climate Change. UN climate conference in 2014 in Lima, COP-20, shall make a practical step towards the conclusion of such an agreement.

Russian Federation together with Wetlands International present outcomes of the studies of terrestrial ecosystems with high carbon content - steppe, peatlands and tundra. Special consideration is given to ongoing greenhouse gas emission assessment and mitigation projects for wetlands and tundra.

On October, 28 the first in Russia presentation of 5th evaluative report of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) was discussed in INTERFAX. That event was organized by Climatic Secretariat of the Russian Social Ecological Union and WWF, Russia.

There is a growing body of evidence that human-induced climate change is already causing serious human health problems across the globe.
These health impacts will only escalate as the world’s climate becomes increasingly destabilized. The Lancet has called climate change, “the biggest global health threat of the 21st century”.

"Public participation in the development of national policies on climate and energy"
13-14 November 2009

Anglish version:

These proposals by Russian Social Ecological Union (RSEU) are caused by the concern about the acceleration and the irreversibility of climatic changes, which may lead to catastrophic impact on the economy and population both in Russia and the whole world, if no necessary measures to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions are taken.
