Energy efficiency

SPARE activists in the Central District of Russia, members of the RSEU, collected a collection of the best films created by our students-participants of SPARE competitions in 2010 - 2017. The announcement of the auto-film tour was sent to small settlements in Bryansk, Moscow, Kaluga, Yaroslavl, Oryol regions by e-mail in the end of August. Ecological settlements, local schools and kindergartens, clubs, libraries and simply farm families invited us to talk about the SPARE program with the help of short video films. In September 2017, we held a three-week film tour in those settlements that haven’t become members of the SPARE program yet.

Adults and children attending kindergartens in the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation began to participate in the SPARE program since 2014. During this time, the SPARE program coordinators of our region developed business games on energy saving exclusively for children. The games were adapted from a book called “The thermal power plant from nothing” by V. Shinkarenko, the author of methodical recommendations for the creation of warm houses for pets.

On the 15th of April at the Russian state library for youth hosted a stand-up called "Tell your idea to the Minister", where Daria Mytareva, a member of the Board of the Russian socio-ecological Union and the youth program coordinator, presented the national youth campaign "Climate Ambassadors".

Owners of small renewable energy units (RESs) will be allowed not only to tap into power lines but also to surrender a part of their own produced energy. Deputy RF Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich commissioned field-specific departments to develop a plan for the enhancement of micro generation capacities.

The combination of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources will free the economic growth from CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, say the authors of the new World Energy Outlook 2016 report by the International Energy Agency.

The year 2016 has not become a game-changer for renewable energy in Russia, yet it did bring a few things that gave us the reason to be optimistic. Special means of support for RES were promised, several documents that lay the basis for providing subsidies and other incentives to RES were adopted, new facilities have been brought online in Russia’s regions. Now is the time for core changes in Russia’s energy development strategy, say environmental NGOs.

On December 14, Friends of the Baltic NGO, SPARE experts and Ecocentrum Ltd with the support of Profine-RUS (JSC) and school № 579 organized and conducted a training-seminar for Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad region school Ecoadvisers.

The environmental/energy Interfax-ERA Rating Agency published the energy efficiency rating of Russian regions. Its leaders became the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, Republic of Tatarstan, City of St. Petersburg, Belgorod and Murmansk Regions and Altay Krai. The ratings show some success stories but as a whole, the energy efficiency programs do not operate in full force and even the leading regions have huge potentials for enhancement of their energy efficiency, representatives of public environmental organizations believe.

Observers and participants of the Climate Conference of the UN FCCC (СОР22) in Marrakech (Morocco) articulate their expectations. Representatives of public environmental organizations push for the global community to abandon hazardous and risky projects and provide support to the development of well-tried low-carbon technologies.

In the days of the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech (СОР22), a “Clean Energy” conference took place in St. Petersburg. It was dedicated to the issues of energy and sustainable development, balance of business interests and preservation of natural resources.
